Training Requirements 
A recent update to Section 113 of the New York City Fire Code took effect on December 1, 2016. The amendments to the 2014 fire code as enacted by Local Law 148 affects existing Fire Safety Directors and Emergency Action Plan Directors certificate of fitness holders. Intended Audience
All Fire Safety Directors (F-25 or F-58) and Emergency Action Plan Director’s (F-59) Certificate of Fitness holders must complete an active shooter and medical emergency training course from an accredited school by September 4, 2017 or before their current certificate of fitness expires, whichever is sooner.
Course Overview
This Active Shooter and Medical Emergency Preparedness Training Course Curriculum provides a general guidance to Fire and Life Safety (FLS) Director and the building owners to mitigate the damage or injuries resulting from active shooter and medical emergency incidents occurred in high-rise buildings. Topics covered will include active shooter emergencies, “avoid, barricade, confront, response”, emergency preparedness, and Medical emergencies and 911.
Completion Requirements:
Students are required to complete 100% of the course and achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the 20-question multiple choice graduation exam to receive the course completion certificate and verification letter. Students are allotted 1 hour to complete the exam, which is not open book. Students who do not pass the end-of-course test will be extended a second opportunity to take the exam. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the school to schedule their retake exam within one week of the original class date.

Students who do not successfully pass the exam a second time will have the option of registering for another Active Shooter and Medical Emergency Preparedness Course at a reduced price of 50% of the original course fee. Students must contact the school to schedule and pay for the retake class within 6 months following the original class date. After 6 months, students will be required to pay the full course fee.

Make-up time is not permitted for this training course. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule and attend the full training course.
